Standard 6: Instructional Planning
The teacher plans instruction to support students in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, Utah Core Standards, instructional best practices, and the community context.
- Based on Utah Core Standards, a teacher should make teaching plans that show the teacher's knowledge of content and instructional practices with learners differences and higher order thinking practice to reach goals and objectives.
Goal:
- My lessons are designed focusing more on students’ life and to integrate four language skills into my lesson rather than to separate them into single part.
Goal reflection:
- One cannot separate a language's speaking, listening, reading, and writing apart when learning a language. Also, for beginning learners who are my target students, they would learn better when the topics are related to their daily life or/and themselves. In the same way, students would more likely to share their thoughts and what they know when the topic is more interested which should be something around their daily life. In order to reach the best learning outcome for students, a lesson designed based on Utah Core Standards should be, at the same time, related to students' life.

Evidence reflection:
- A well designed lesson is important for a teacher. As a language teacher, I always make a lesson plan with opportunities for students to talk and listen to topic related to students' interests. A language learning class is always talkative instead of quiet. This is the way students can learn best. For example, when students need to learn six new vocabulary this week, I like to first have students listen to these vocabulary in sentence on first day. Then I would like to have students to recognized the vocabulary when they listen to them via activities. Next, students should be able to say these vocabulary and even be able to make sentence with these vocabulary. The next step is to show students these vocabulary for them to see and then try to write these vocabulary. I noticed that students would have more interests on what the teaching is teaching when they understand the content. That is, it is really important to design topic related to students' life so they can relate.
